Aim
The aim of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing Department are to equip nurses with the knowledge, skills, and clinical expertise to provide compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care to women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and gynaecological health, while promoting ethical practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, and lifelong professional development.
Objectives
- Develop clinical competence in obstetrics and gynaecology nursing: Equip nursing students with the skills to assess, plan, and implement nursing care for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and providing care for gynaecological conditions, including menstrual disorders, infections, fertility concerns, and cancers of the reproductive system.
- Enhance knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology: Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of reproductive anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Teach students about the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including normal and high-risk pregnancies and educate about common gynaecological disorders and treatment options.
- Promote patient-centered care: Foster compassionate, empathetic, and culturally competent care, ensuring patient dignity and respect in all interactions.
- Teach evidence-based practice: Encourage the use of evidence-based research in clinical decision-making, ensuring the delivery of care that is supported by the latest scientific findings.
- Ensure safe and effective obstetrics and gynaecology nursing practice: Train students to identify and manage obstetric and gynaecological emergencies, ensuring safety in both routine and high-risk situations. Develop skills in monitoring and managing labor, delivery, and postpartum complications.
- Encourage collaboration and teamwork: Cultivate an understanding of interdisciplinary teamwork, emphasizing collaboration with obstetricians, gynaecologists, midwives, and other healthcare providers in delivering holistic care.
- Promote ethical and legal practices in obstetrics and gynaecology nursing: Teach ethical considerations related to reproductive health, including patient autonomy, informed consent, and the nurse’s role in advocating for patient rights.
- Prepare for leadership and advanced practice roles.
- Focus on preventive and public health measures.
- Foster continuous professional development: Encourage lifelong learning and continuing education to keep up with evolving practices and technologies in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.
