The MAHARSHI KARVE STREE SHIKSHAN SAMSTHA (MKSSS), our parent body, which is 128 years old, has been committed to “Empowerment of women through education” for over a century. The Samstha was established in 1896 by the great visionary and social worker, Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, to provide shelter to destitute women. He also founded the first women’s university in Maharashtra, India, known as Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT). Throughout his life, he continued working for women’s education, overcoming several challenges. He was awarded the highest civilian honor, the “Bharat Ratna,” in 1958.
MKSSS provides education to girls from pre-primary to professional levels. The Samstha works relentlessly towards educating women and making them self-reliant. MKSSS, Pune, has branches all over Maharashtra, India, with more than 35,000 girl students enrolled in these institutions. An extensive infrastructure to support the diverse activities of MKSSS is spread across campuses located in Pune, Satara, Wai, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, and Kamshet.
